Stevia Rebaudiana
$3.99
Rebaudiana. Thanks to its sweet taste, stevia (male or female name) is a condiment plant used as a natural sweetener. With a slight licorice flavor, it is perfect for sweetening yogurt, herbal teas and why not salad dressings. Stevia is not an easy plant to germinate. The use of a heating mat is strongly suggested to improve the germination rate. That said, once the young shoot has formed, the plant is easy to maintain.

Growing tips
Germination conditions:
- depth of sowing: above ground (press seeds lightly into the soil, but do not cover them)
- optimal temperature for germination: 20 to 24ºC
- time for germination: 10 to 21 days
When to sow:
- sow indoors 8 to 10 weeks before the last date in your area
Sowing technique: in pocket
Inside the same hole, sow 3 to 5 seeds spaced 1 to 2 cm apart; when the seeds have germinated and the seedlings have reached a height of 5 cm, keep all the seedlings if space is available or keep only the most beautiful ones. Transplant into individual containers while waiting for transplanting in the garden
Transplanting outdoors: when there is no risk of frost
Distance in the garden: between plants: 30 cm
Height of the plants: 60 cm
Soil: rich and well drained
Exposure: full sun
Maturation: 100 days, but younger leaves can be harvested. To stimulate the branching of the plant, harvest the stevia shoots by pinching the heads of the stems with your fingers.
Specificities:
- cultivation of the plant is easy after germination;
- plant adapted to the culture in pot;
- water regularly during hot or dry periods
