A popular choice in microgrowing, Black Oil Sunflower is tasty (light nutty, salty/sweet) and easy to grow, it can be harvested only about 10 days after sowing, as soon as the true leaves appear, the plant being then about 7.5-10 cm tall. It can also be grown as an ornamental plant. At full maturity, it can measure two meters. This single stemmed variety with yellow flowers produces black seeds with high oil content

Growing tips
Conditions of germination:
- depth of sowing: 1-2 cm
- optimal temperatures for germination: 20 to 30 ºC
- time for germination: 7 to 21 days
When to sow:
- indoor sowing 4 to 6 weeks before the last frost date in your area OR
- direct seeding after any risk of frost
Sowing technique: in line
- Draw a line in the ground (in a pot or in the ground), then sow the seeds.
Transplant outdoors (for seedlings started indoors):
- When all risk of frost has been eliminated
Distance in the garden:
- between plants: 45-60 cm
- between rows: 60 cm
Height of the plants: 180-220 cm
Soil: rich and well drained, but adapts to several types of soil (light, clay, rather dry)
Exposure: full sun
Maturation: 8 to 12 days for the micropods and 90 to 100 days at full maturity
