Purple Top White Globe turnip (not to be confused with rutabaga), grown since the late 19th century, forms a white bulb with a purple collar. It has a fresh, slightly peppery taste reminiscent of a radish. The slightly serrated green leaves can also be eaten when fresh. Sow early in the spring for an early harvest or late in the summer for a fall harvest.
