Nigella sativa. Black cumin, also known as nigella, is a herbaceous plant with pale blue flowers and delicate foliage. After flowering, the plant produces brown-black seeds with a spicy taste reminiscent of onion, pepper and oregano. They are used as a condiment to flavor curries, stews, marinades and more. It is also said to have several medicinal virtues. An annual that resprouts depending on the growing zone (hardy in zone 4).

Growing tips
Germination conditions:
- sowing depth: 5 mm
- optimum germination temperature: 20 to 30ºC
- germination time: 7 to 21 days
When to sow:
- indoor sowing 4 to 6 weeks before the latest date in your region
Sowing technique: in pocket
In the same hole, sow 3 to 5 seeds, spacing them 1 to 2 cm apart; when the seeds have germinated and the seedlings are 5 cm tall, keep all the plants if space is available, or keep only the best-looking ones. Transplant into individual containers before transplanting into the garden.

- when there is no risk of frost and the soil has warmed up.
