Growing tips
Conditions of germination:
- depth of sowing: 2.5 cm
- optimal temperatures of germination: 5 to 20ºC
- time for germination: 7 to 14 days
When to sow:
- direct sowing when the soil can be worked in spring
Sowing technique: in line
- draw a line in the soil (in pot or in the ground), then sow the seeds
Distance in the garden:
- between plants: 5 cm
- between rows: 45 cm
Height of the plants: 200 to 250 cm
Soil: rich and well drained
Exposure: full sun or light shade
Days to harvest (from sowing): 70 to 80 days
Specificities:
- peas can be sown tightly, as they tolerate being crowded;
- can be sown successively, but since peas prefer cooler climates (germination rate decreases with heat), they are usually sown in the spring until mid/late May for a summer harvest, then towards the end of July/early August for a fall harvest
