Growing tips
Germination conditions:
- sowing depth: surface sowing
- optimum germination temperature: 20ºC
- germination time: 7 to 14 days
When to sow:
- indoor sowing 6 to 8 weeks before last frost for early flowering OR
- direct sowing after any risk of frost in spring or autumn for flowering the following year.
Sowing technique: in pocket
In the same hole, sow 3 to 5 seeds, spacing them about 1 to 2 cm apart. When the seeds have germinated and the seedlings are 5 cm tall, keep all the plants if space is available, or keep only the best-looking ones. Transplant into individual containers while waiting to be transplanted into the garden.
Transplanting in the garden: when the soil has warmed up and there is no longer any risk of frost.
Distance in the garden: between plants: 20 cm
Plant height: 60-120 cm
Soil: cool to slightly dry, well drained
Exposure: full sun, tolerates light shade
Flowering period: all summer
Specificities:
- May be prone to mildew; grow preferably in a well-ventilated area to prevent it;
- Found in the wild in meadows, fields and copses, it thrives in a variety of growing conditions, especially dry soils;
- Hardiness: zone 3
