Pea – Alaska
$3.99
An early garden pea variety with light green, straight pods containing about 6-8 peas. Cultivated since the end of the 19th century, it has a semi-bushy habit and reaches an average height of 60 to 90 cm. A few 1 meter stakes planted here and there around the plants or a net can be useful to keep them straight and facilitate harvesting.

Growing tips
Conditions of germination:
- depth of sowing: 2.5 cm
- optimal temperatures of germination: 5 to 20ºC
- time for germination: 7 to 14 days
When to sow:
- direct sowing when the soil can be worked in spring, about 4 weeks before the last frost in your area
Sowing technique: in line
- draw a line in the soil (in a pot or in the ground), then sow the seeds in it
Distance in the garden:
- between plants: 5 cm
- between rows: 45 cm
Height of the plants: 60-90 cm
Soil: rich and well drained
Exposure: full sun or light shade
Days to harvest (from sowing): 55 days
Specificities:
- peas can be sown tightly, as they tolerate being crowded;
- can be sown successively, but since peas prefer cooler climates (germination rate decreases with heat), they are usually sown in the spring until mid/late May for a summer harvest, and then towards the end of July/early August for a fall harvest
